Every Easter children enjoy hunting for colorful eggs and yummy candies, while their dogs stand by the wayside hoping for leftovers. This year the dogs were able join in on all the fun! On March 27th in Citrus Heights, California, Waggin’ Tails Doggie Day Care and VibraPet Foods presented their Second Annual Doggie Easter Egg Hunt.
The event was formed to entertain families and their dogs, while raising funds for WOOF, an organization that helps connect homeless dog owners with resources. WOOFF (Welfare of Our Furry Friends) was formed in 1999 to support the efforts of Anneke Vos, a long-time advocate of the homeless and their animals. WOOF assists the Loaves and Fishes Homeless Shelter, by providing homeless people and their animals with access to food, collars, leashes, spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and checkups. They also assist in re-homing abandoned animals and by paying for the temporary boarding of abandoned animals.
The Doggie Easter Egg Hunt featured colorful plastic eggs that contained delicious dog treats shaped like eggs. Many dogs at the event were quick to discover the yummy goodness that was held inside of the captivating eggs. They would sniff out the eggs, quickly crack them open, and gobble up the treats. Some dogs enjoyed simply finding the eggs and allowing their owners to fill up their egg cartons, purchased upon entry for $5. Other dogs ignored the eggs altogether and went straight for the fun Waggin’ Tails off leash play park and doggie playground.
Besides the egg hunt, the event included many fun activities for the dogs and their families such as an Easter Bonnet contest featuring fun, flowery, and crazy Easter inspired doggie bonnets. There was a Doggy Limbo contest where contestants jumped over a hula hoop, and a Crooked Path game where owners held an Easter Egg on a spoon, maneuvering their way through a crooked path, while keeping their leashed dogs next to them.
The Waggin’ Tails Doggie Day Care features a fenced 2-acre outdoor dog park, trampolines, splash pools, climbing structures, and dog houses. There is a 1400 sq. ft. climate controlled, indoor play space for dogs as well. After staying at this day care dogs return home happy, exhausted and ready for bed - they way every good dog should live!
VibraPet Foods offer healthy food and treats for the pampered pet. All their products are made from scratch, by certified chefs, with only the finest all natural ingredients. This amazing food is a far cry from traditional dry kibble, and has been Tiffany & Kimber approved with five doggie roll overs! Woof!
The two businesses work well together and have a great love for animals. “All of us are dog-owners, and all of our dogs were homeless once,” says VibraPet Foods Owner Kris Fuentes. "To be able to use our businesses to help WOOFF connect homeless dog owners with resources is a great feeling.”
