Bay to Barkers Race Away!

Maltese and Maltipoo, Alfie and Louis in Matching TracksuitsOn Sunday, August 2, 2009, dogs and their people came from all over the Bay Area to attend the 12th Annual Bay to Barkers marathon, organized by the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. Located behind the Golden Gate Fields Race Track, the marathon took Barkers on a winding trail that overlooked San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hundreds of dogs and their people arrived for the walk, and many dogs came outfitted in trendy sports gear! A Maltese and a Maltipoo Chihuahua, named Alfie and Louis, Roxie is a fashionable Husky-Mixwere ready to hit the trail in their coordinating track suits. Roxie, a husky-mix was especially fashionable in her blue shorts that matched her amazing blue eyes.

Dogs had their noses and ears to the ground in preparation for the big race/walk. All queued up eagerly at the start line then trailed after each other like lemmings. While some dogs preferred to stand on the sidelines and cheer on the crowd, others marched along enjoying the beautiful ocean breeze and nature trail. Long legs, short legs, even three legs were pulling their owners on the trail, happy to raise funds for animals in need. Continue reading…
