Pets on Parade thanks to Kiwanis!

Patriotic Marchers On Saturday May 15, the Los Altos Kiwanis Club held their 63rd annual Pet Parade down Main Street in Los Altos, California.

The Kiwanis Club International is a global organization of volunteers of every age who are dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

The Los Altos Kiwanis Club has been organizing the Pet Parade since 1948. Every year this beloved community tradition attracts thousands of people, hundreds of families, and hundreds of dogs and various other pets to participate and watch. Continue reading…

May’s Feature Dog – Chihuahua

Cream is a Chihuahua who loves fashion!Meet Cream, a two year old, four pound Chihuahua who loves to wear pink. Cream is an independent girl who likes to explore and make new friends. She enjoys long naps, short walks, and any clothes that make her ears look big.

Her favorite activities include hanging out with her friends, investigating the neighborhood, and running up to strangers just to say “Hello!” Cream enjoys rolling in anything smelly that she may encounter during her walks, and she doesn’t mind sharing her discoveries with friends.

The Chihuahua is the smallest breed in the world, and was named after the Mexican State of Chihuahua, where the breed was first discovered. There are many theories of the true origin of this little dog. Some believe they came over from Europe, originating in Malta, while others believe they came from China. Wherever their origins, the Chihuahua was considered holy to Pre-Columbian Indian nations, and is still popular today!

A Valentine for Ziggy

Steve Valentine and ZiggyOnce upon a time in a land called L.A., there was a homeless, timid, young Chihuahua mix named Snowflake. Abandoned simply because his family didn’t care enough to pay $200 for an operation, Snowflake ended up at the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation, an organization dedicated to the rescue of abused and abandoned animals in the Los Angeles area.

Unbeknownst to Snowflake, this was a blessing in disguise, as he had obvious signs of abuse, was malnourished, and would cower when anyone moved. Linda Blair knew this sweet little dog needed a special home so she contacted celebrity pet photographer, Christopher Ameruoso, to see if he could help place this lovable little dog. Christopher immediately thought of his good friend and award-winning actor, Steve Valentine, with whom he was involved in various animal rights movements and organizations. Continue reading…

Cheeko B Good

Kattya, Cheeko and FrankieSan Francisco is renowned for its culture, dining, architecture, cable cars, and now – Cheeko B Pet Boutique. Located near Union Square this boutique has been called the Crème de la Crème of doggie stores.

Opened in March 2008 by Kattya and Patrick Breitenbach, Cheeko B features designer clothing, collars, toys, treats, and other unique items. Kattya loved shopping for her dogs but couldn’t find many places with unique doggie items, so she used her experience in developing San Francisco and Napa Valley Spas to open Cheeko B. The hardest part in the seven-month development was finding a location, “People didn’t understand what a Pet Boutique was, they thought we wanted to board dogs,” says Kattya, “we finally found a landlord who had a dog and understood the concept” – thus Cheeko B came to fruition.
